Andrew's Testimony

Andrew’s Testimony
It was a real joy to get to know kids I had really only seen at the team meetings, but did not know to even hang out with them.
The 30 minute drive to the hotel every day was a blessing. We had one more team member than seats also. Harry almost never sat …. Part of his servant leadership. Inevitibly, I would sit with a Ben, Andrew, or James. Lots of the time it was Andrew as we were the lingerers. And somehow almost always next to Dave and Cindy. Dave is great at holding things …… “will you hold this for a second?” (big gigantic bag of everything).
It was sweet time of discussion on the bus, especially at the end of a 3-day-long day filled with so many experiences we could not remember what the morning was. So that was the time for getting to know these sweet kids.
Andrew and I got to talk about him getting to know the kids he does not go to school with, what it feels like to be the new kid, what it feels like to not yet feel part of. And what it feels like to be part of.
He had gone to summer school the last couple of summers, allowing him to learn more, make better grades. Quite a hard-working and goal-minded kid for 17 years. And how the trip coincided with the beginning of summer school. That was initially a difficult decision for him to make. We do make plans, and sometimes God changes them. I am so thankful that Andrew was obedient to the change that the Lord directed for him. They decided later to commit to coming, and sent out their support letters recently. They were so blessed by seeing the folks who supported them.
As Andrew talked about the decision, he had wanted to share that at the church Thursday if the opportunity arose. Harry mentioned that at church, there is sometimes an opportunity for sharing testimonies. If it had arisen, he was willing to share. It did not as God had different plans, so I received it. What a blessing to me! He said how thankful he was to be here, to get to know the youth as well as all the awesome kids he played with, and how God had taught him so much. How awesome to sit and listen to Harry for hours.
Also, on the bus ride from ATL, we sat together. There was an abundance of seats on the coach …. We all said we could have held at least 150 more people as well as several small appliances! So we sould all have our own seats, but enjoyed the fellowship of being together. I was flattered that Andrew wanted to share a seat. As we drove by Pell City he talked about growing up, his brothers and sister, his parents, the different places they had lived, and how sweet it was when his parents added a room for him to call his own.
And I have to tell you how sweet it was for Andrew and his sister Lauren to ask for a photo together the last night for their Mom and Dad. They are so sweet together. Andrew really looks out for his younger sister, loves her, honors her. She is totally protected with him. God is preparing him to be a godly man. As he is the other young men on the trip. I can’t wait to see what Jesus will do with Andrew!!!!!! (Think Harry!)
