Our hopes for the orphanage:
The boys sleep in bunk beds in the rooms with mattresses. They clean the mattresses by washing them off, then laying them in the yard to dry in the sun. That is the way it is done here. Many of them have holes in them. Some are foam. Some are like the baby bed mattresses. They are like the mattresses I see on the road in West End as I drive through to Princeton Hospital, lying on the side of the road to be discarded. Wouldn’t it be awesome to provide rest for these sweet children in the form of mattresses? Both the boys, as well as the girls’ orphanage! More to come about it…..

We were able to go by the school the boys attend. Haitian people in this country do not have rights, like the right to attend school, have health care, etc as it costs money to apply for
the right paperwork and jusmp through the hoops, they speak Creole. Harry et al prayed hard for the kids to be abe to attend school, and were declined three times, but then the kids were permitted to go to school. There is discrimintaion in the schools against the Haitians. Not that different between different groups in the US. Pray for the kids, and for the possibility of attending English School or for an English teacher to come in to teach the kids. They will have so much more oppurtunity for employment as tour guides, in hotels, in business. A way out of the streets, the slums. To support a family as a godly man .
We are all amazed at the intelligence and problem solving skills of the orphans. Their resourcefulness. The "kite", for instance. Playing with the ruptured basketball. Pitching practice with rocks as no balls available. There were baseballs, but they are now over the fence. Way over!
Check out the mango tree. I cannot think of the word mango without hearing Harry and seeing him as a child climbing it! You know that as the mangos fall, they are eaten in the play-yard. Note the playgoround without swings, the play-yard, the classroom. Wow. And we complain about education and facilities here .........
