VBS and Lunch at the Orphanage
Today, Thursday, we all came to the orphanage for VBS. VBS today was about forgiveness that we are offered in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Many Bibles were given out. There were more mothers and people from the community. Mothers received Bibles, children received Bibles, the women who work at the orphanage received Bibles. It was awesome! Pray for those who have received bibles, that they would be fed by God’s Word, grow in Christ, and lead others to a living relationship with Jesus. We desire that as they listened to VBS, that souls are saved. Caroline and Ben McL shared their testimony. How encouraging! After that, everyone just played. It is such a joy as we all feel like we have known the children here forever. And we are overcoming the language barrier.
Tricia was able to spend time with Carolina and her mother. Carolina’s mother received a Bible, and attentively listened to VBS and participated.
Kevin and Dave, our American Haitians, labored all day upstairs on Brad and Brooke’s apartment. Progress is being made. The boys of the team, as well as Manuel, painted until it was time for the team to go. The team returned to the hotel to eat, but Kevin, Dave, and I stayed behind with Soto and Brad at the orphanage. We all ate lunch consisting of a gigantic plate of beans, rice, and a meat dish cooked with vegetables. The kids were so well-behaved. They prayed, then ate all their food. They appeared to all have a place where they sit routinely, as we do at home. I am amazed again at the kids! I got out my iPhone to show them photos of our girls at home. Then I took some photos of them. They watched me mess with the iPhone, then quickly picked up how to work it. They amaze me at their ability to adapt and learn. Before and after lunch, after the rest of the team left, the kids played outside. They threw balls, flew the “kite”, horsed around. It looked like any American group of kids, but without all the fancy toys and trinkets. Several kids walked around on their hands. Handstands. That takes a lot of muscle strength and coordination. I feel like Harry, I am so excited every day. He has a certain expression that he does and lifts his fists. I can just see it.
